Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore

 Cattolica

The Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) is the most prominent Catholic university in Europe and the only Italian university with a national presence across five campuses: Milan, Piacenza, Cremona, Brescia, and Rome, where the renowned Policlinico Universitario “A. Gemelli” is located.

Founded in 1921 by Father Agostino Gemelli and a group of Catholic intellectuals, the university is deeply rooted in the European humanistic and cultural tradition. Its mission focuses on holistic education, shaping individuals intellectually, ethically, and socially.

Over the past century, Università Cattolica has played a central role in forming Italy’s cultural and professional elite, including leaders in politics, academia, business, media, and the Church. The university's academic excellence and strong heritage are symbolized by its historical main campus in Milan, built around the ancient Sant’Ambrogio Monastery, and later expanded under architect Giovanni Muzio.

Notable milestones include the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Rome (1961), the opening of the Gemelli Hospital (1964), and campus expansions to Piacenza (1952), Brescia (1965), and Cremona (1984).

Università Cattolica continues to be a beacon of knowledge and formation, contributing significantly to Italy and the global community.
